Expressive Portraits: Using Vision, Knowledge & Heart

  • Two day workshop: Saturday, Sept. 14 & Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019

  • 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily

In this workshop, students will work from a live model and photographs.

Students will:

  • Gain knowledge of constructing the head and features, and how to create form to get a likeness.

  • Develop their Vision for the portrait they want to create.

  • Learn ways to express emotion and feeling in their portraits to show the sitter’s character.

  • Address finer details of drawing, value, color, handling edges, and composition.

Students will receive individual attention to encourage their strengths and assess areas they feel unsure about. Students may bring one or two portraits they have done to be critiqued, if time allows.

Connie will be demonstrating in pastel and oil. Students may work in pastel or oil. Supply list will be sent to all students.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Connie Kuhnle is a West Michigan artist specializing in portrait and landscape painting. She works in both pastel and oil.  

She has taught workshops and classes in all over Michigan, including at Kendall College of Art and at Frederick Meijer Gardens.  

Connie is a member of the Portrait Society of America and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Her artwork has received awards regionally and nationally, and is in numerous private and corporate collections.
