WITH MARY ANN PALS

  • Friday, April 28 & Saturday, April 29, 2023

  • 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (1 hour lunch break)

  • $225

This two-day pastel workshop is open to advanced beginners and above is instructed by Mary Ann Pals, an IAPS Master Circle pastelist. On the morning of the first day, she will demonstrate rendering a flower painting. Then there will be time for students to work on their own paintings with individual help from Mary Ann.

Focus will be on rendering a close-up of a flower similar to the style of Georgia O'Keeffe. Mary Ann will demostrate how to create petals and make a flower glow with expressive color. While using reference photos, students will learn how to avoid the pitfalls of following a photo too closely. Sound composition will be emphasized. If time allows on the second day, Mary Ann will demonstrate how to create a larger garden view painting.

MATERIALS TO BRING

Students will provide some their own materials. Open to advanced beginners and above. A supply list will be sent out prior to the workshop.

Contact Pickle Street School Studio to register.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mary Ann Pals is a pastel and charcoal artist living near the southern tip of Lake Michigan in Chesterton, IN. She regularly exhibits her work in area, national, and international shows and art fairs. She is a member of three national pastel societies and has attained Master Circle status from IAPS.  She has also published articles in Pastel Journal magazine several times.

Mary Ann's artwork is her passion. She enjoys creating lifelike scenes that depict the natural beauty she sees around her. She has traveled extensively with her family across the US, which provide her with a rich library of visual images. Back in her studio she uses her photos and memories as a springboard to convey those special moments and her mood on paper. Mary Ann claims, “Nature says it best. I just embellish the tale.”
