Explore the Rich World of Gouache

This two-day workshop will give participants the opportunity to explore the versatile qualities of gouache. Gouache (pronounced “gwash”) is a chroma-rich, water-based medium that lends itself to a wide range of possibilities for painting on paper with easy clean up. Attendees will investigate mixing colors from a limited palette, experiment with layers and develop paintings in the studio. All levels of experience are welcome. Demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and critiques will be included.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Joan Richmond has enjoyed working with gouache during the last 15 years of her artistic career. After teaching painting at Northwestern Michigan College for ten years, she continues to instruct drawing and painting workshops. A graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati, she holds an MFA from the University of Notre Dame. Richmond has received numerous juried exhibit and plein air awards and has attended a number of residencies including, “Visiting Artist,” at the American Academy in Rome. She exhibits regionally.
